Almanac Seasonal Improvisation Series

with Nina Haft

Mondays, January 11, 18, 25
12-1pm
$0-60 sliding scale

In this 3-part Almanac Seasonal Improvisation Series, we will tune into our physical bodies as fields of nature, sensation and movement. Each session will include consulting the Farmers' Almanac (among other technologies) to find nourishing connections to the environment, and is designed with specifics of the day and your location. Add new scores to your repertoire for creative and physical nourishment, as we explore how to grow a seasonally-rooted movement practice for these times.

Nina Otis Haft is Artistic Director of Nina Haft & Company, a Bay Area-based contemporary dance ensemble known for site-specific work and immersive theatrical performances. Her recent work has explored the body as a field of nature and knowing, including debris/flows, King Tide and Precarious Pod. NHCo is also known for Dance in Unexpected Places, performing in dockyards, synagogues, bars, parking lots, libraries, cemeteries and other liminal spaces. NHCo has been presented in Boston, LA, Madison, NYC, Portland, San Diego, Novosibirsk, Amman, Jerusalem, Bethlehem and Ramallah. ninahaftandcompany.com

Mondays, February 1, 8, 15, and 22
12-1:30pm
$0-80 sliding scale

This class will focus on breath, exploration of sensations, musicality, fluid transitions and technique. Heightening awareness and exploring range of motion and expression in the body leads us to physical freedom and efficiency in movement. Class will encourage clarity, confidence and joy.

She is the artistic director of sculpted motion, creating choreographic works that stimulate the viewer viscerally, emotionally and kinesthetically with an athletic and sensuous aesthetic. She has been on the faculty at DNA(Dance Space) NYC, assistant faculty at The Juilliard School and guest artist at Sarah Lawrence College, Long Island University/Brooklyn and The Next Stage Project, Mills College, Napa Valley College and Hope College.
