What is the Shawl-Anderson Pre-Professional Program and Youth Ensemble?
The Shawl-Anderson Pre-Professional Program and Youth Ensemble is a unique opportunity for the serious dance student. As the only modern-based dance program of its kind in the East Bay, we are proud to offer a comprehensive pre-professional training program for students who are interested in taking their dancing to the next level.
Pre-Professional Program
Our program provides students with sound training in both ballet and modern techniques. These classes focus on accessing efficient alignment in technique, full-bodied dynamic dancing, musicality, improvisation, composition, choice-making, and risk-taking. This program is geared toward the serious student who is looking for an intense dance program as well as those who are interested in entering a college dance department.Requirements
Students are required to take the following classes each week:
- 2 Teen Modern III class (Tuesdays & Thursdays 4:30-6pm)
- 1 Pre-Professional Ballet class (Mondays 4:30-6pm)
Total Program Cost: $655.20 (total reflects a 10% discount). Families have the option to pay in full or pay 3 installments of $218.40.
* Enrollment in Pre-Professional Program is by audition only. The audition takes place each fall.
* Students are also highly encouraged to participate in the Summer Teen Modern Intensive.
Youth Ensemble
The Shawl-Anderson Youth Ensemble (SAYE) is the performing component of the Pre-Professional Program. SAYE is an additional training and performing commitment made by the pre-professional student. As a participant in SAYE, students will have the opportunity to perform in the works of Bay Area choreographers at local festivals and dance concerts, go see live dance performances, and take master classes. Requirements
Students are required to take the following classes each week:
- 2 Teen Modern III classes (Tuesdays & Thursdays 4:30-6pm)
- 1 Pre-Professional Ballet class (Mondays 4:30-6pm)
- 1 Rehearsal (Tuesdays 6-7:30pm)
Total Program Cost: $877.50 (total reflects a 10% discount). Families have the option to pay in full or pay in 3 installments of $292.50.
* Enrollment in SAYE is by audition only. The audition takes place each fall.
* Pre-requisite: for consideration in SAYE, the student must have participated in the Summer Teen Modern Intensive.
